The “New Uzbekistan — the Foundation of a New Renaissance” exhibition received the Barco Award
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan was awarded a prestigious industry prize by the international technology company Barco for the realization of the “New Uzbekistan — the Foundation of a New Renaissance” multimedia exhibition.
The project was recognized as one of the finest examples of technologically and artistically refined integration of advanced visual solutions within a cultural space. The exhibition combines large-scale 3D mapping, immersive shows, and digital staging, creating a full immersion effect that allows visitors to deeply experience the region’s history and intellectual heritage.
The creative concept and visual implementation of the project were carried out by an international team renowned worldwide for major multimedia stage productions. In close cooperation with the Center’s technical specialists, the team developed a unique audiovisual style for the exhibition, harmoniously blending artistic vision with cutting-edge technology.
As part of the project, high-tech Barco laser projectors were used, ensuring exceptional brightness, precise color reproduction, and image stability. Through this, the Center’s façade and interior spaces were transformed into a dynamic visual environment, showcasing Uzbekistan’s contribution to world civilization — from the era of great scholars to the modern stage of the country’s development.
The “New Uzbekistan — the Foundation of a New Renaissance” exhibition reflects the continuity of historical eras and embodies strategic visions of cultural and scientific renewal. The award confirms the project’s high-quality execution and further strengthens the status of the Islamic Civilization Center as a modern cultural and scholarly platform of international significance.
For reference, the mapping show created by Russia’s Sila Sveta company by order of the Center is a 25-minute creative production involving 47 lighting systems, the work of approximately 100 creative and technical specialists, and 50 graphic designers. While technologically complex, the project was developed on the basis of historical information and scholarly interpretations provided by the Center. Each projection, color, beam of light, and musical tone reflects Uzbekistan’s scientific achievements, cultural heritage, and the legacy of its great scholars.
One of the most powerful symbols of the show is the opening scene of the Holy Qur’an with the recitation of the “Iqro” verse. During the projection, the building’s walls appear to become transparent as light enters the center, presenting a new artistic interpretation of the sacred book as a symbol of enlightenment transmitted from history to the future.
The show places its central focus on humanity and its scholarly heritage. Through projections, great figures who left a mark on Uzbekistan’s history — such as Ibn Sina, Khwarazmi, Imam Bukhari, Amir Temur, and Mirzo Ulugbek — are depicted. The symbolic scene drawn from the Holy Qur’an expresses the inseparable connection between history and spirituality, as the Center’s walls seem to illuminate, allowing the audience to experience history as something vivid and alive.
At present, the mapping show is being presented on a trial basis at the Khorezm portal. The choice of this location is deliberate, as Khorezm has long been a center of knowledge, culture, and art. Based on observations and technical results obtained during the trial phase, the mapping show will be further refined.
This mapping show offers audiences the opportunity to feel history, comprehend their own past, and view the richness of cultural heritage through a modern interpretation. By harmonizing history and technology, the project is regarded as a new innovative stage for the Center, with plans to introduce a number of further innovations in the future.
