The greatest force that elevates society
The greatest force that elevates society is knowledge and spirituality. The modern library of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, established on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, occupies an area of 3,105 square meters and is designed to accommodate 266 readers. Today, it has become one of the key scientific and educational institutions tasked with systematically collecting this heritage and transmitting it to the new generation.
The library’s collection consists of 35,150 copies. Among them, 2,359 are rare publications, while 4,921 belong to the “East and West Collection.” The availability of more than 350,000 electronic books further expands the scope of scientific research.
According to specialists of the Center’s library, during 2025 the collection received 4,789 new publications. Of these, 3,879 were donated and 910 were acquired through purchase. Significant work has been carried out in gathering ancient written sources, and a total of 2,359 written materials have been added. Among them, rare works presented by Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature hold particular importance.
According to the data, the collection has been enriched with 907 manuscripts, 1,228 lithographic works, and 224 historical documents.
Digitization processes are also being actively implemented. More than 700 rare publications have been converted into electronic format. Electronic chips have been installed on 30,000 items, and 28 types of modern equipment have been introduced. These measures have brought the library’s operations to international standards.
The acquisition of 762 Braille publications for people with disabilities represents an important step toward creating an inclusive environment.
Through the Center’s digital library, access has been provided to the electronic databases of the National Library of Uzbekistan as well as international databases. As a result, users now have access to more than 10 million electronic resources.
Sevara Nigmatova, chief specialist of the library and archival documents department:
“One of the priority directions of the library is the systematic analysis of modern scientific literature, particularly academic journals published abroad, and organizing subscriptions to them. Within the framework of the scientific and innovative project titled ‘Collection of Scientific Journals Published Abroad,’ a number of practical steps were taken. A list of nearly 200 foreign academic journals was compiled, and subscription prices for 2025–2026 were carefully studied. As a result of the analysis, 198 journals were selected, of which 107 are open access publications and 91 require subscription. Journals that correspond to the Center’s areas of activity and have high academic value were identified, and practical recommendations were developed for organizing subscriptions to them. These recommendations will contribute to enriching the Center’s scientific collection, improving the quality of research, and aligning it with modern academic processes.”
