A major step in studying Amir Temur’s legacy: more than 100 foreign scholars are coming together

A prestigious international scientific conference will be held in Uzbekistan on the occasion of the 690th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur. Scheduled for April 9–11, 2026, this forum is expected to become one of the most significant events in the scientific and educational life of the country. At the regular meeting of the Expanded Scientific Council of the Islamic Civilization Center, the action plan for organizing this international conference was comprehensively discussed.

In accordance with Resolution No. PQ-46 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 5, 2026, a number of priority tasks have been defined within the framework of widely celebrating the 690th anniversary of the birth of Sahibqiran this year. As part of the implementation of this resolution, comprehensive measures have been developed to ensure the high-level organization of the international conference titled “The Role and Significance of Amir Temur and the Timurid Civilization in World History and Culture.” These measures were thoroughly reviewed at the meeting of the Expanded Scientific Council of the Islamic Civilization Center.

The meeting, chaired by the Director of the Center and Chairman of the Scientific Council, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, was attended by members of the Scientific Council, including Bahrom Abduhalimov, Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jannat Ismoilova, Director of the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, Khurshid Fayziyev, Director of the State Museum of the History of the Timurids, as well as specialists and representatives of working groups.

Firdavs Abdukhalikov emphasized the importance of this international forum, noting that it is not merely a scientific event, but a strategic platform aimed at reinterpreting the civilization of the Timurid era through modern scholarly approaches and presenting it broadly to the global community.

The conference will be organized with the participation of a number of partner organizations and academic institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

According to Bahrom Abduhalimov, Vice President of the Academy of Sciences, the Academy is ready to support the organization of this international conference with all necessary scientific and organizational resources.

Within the framework of the conference, a wide range of cultural and educational events are also planned, including:
• Exhibition “Manuscripts of Amir Temur and the Timurid Era”
• Exhibition “Numismatic Heritage of the Timurids”
• Special exhibitions prepared in cooperation with European museums

In addition, within the “Living History” project:
• Film projects dedicated to the era of Amir Temur
• Screenings of films devoted to the lives of Alisher Navoi and Abdurahmon Jami are also planned

More than 100 foreign scholars and experts from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America are expected to participate in the forum.

Special organizational measures have also been defined regarding the temporary exhibition, preservation, and protection of rare Timurid-era artifacts to be brought from abroad within the framework of the conference.

As emphasized at the conclusion of the meeting, this international scientific conference will serve as an important scientific and cultural event aimed at reanalyzing the legacy of Amir Temur and the Timurid period through modern scholarly approaches and presenting it widely to the international community.
