An international forum dedicated to Amir Temur, the great statesman and commander, will be held in London, the capital of the United Kingdom
An international cultural and scientific event dedicated to the 690th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur — a great statesman, brilliant commander, enlightened leader, and founder of a powerful state, one of the most outstanding figures in world history — will be held at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in London.
In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on widely celebrating the 690th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth, this significant date is being commemorated on an international scale around the world. In this regard, April has been declared the Month of Amir Temur.
On April 8 – 12, 2026, an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the role and significance of Amir Temur and the Timurid civilization in world history was held in Tashkent and Samarkand.
As a continuation of the jubilee program, on April 22, an international scientific and educational event was organized in Madrid with the participation of scholars, experts, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
The upcoming event in London will serve as a continuation of the large-scale jubilee celebrations and will reflect the enduring continuity of centuries-old intellectual and cultural dialogue between East and West.
Within the framework of the event, presentations and discussions are planned with the participation of leading national and international scholars, experts, representatives of international organizations, and partner institutions.
In addition, with the participation of representatives of the OSCE and relevant law enforcement agencies of the United Kingdom, issues such as the protection of cultural heritage, prevention of illegal trafficking of historical artifacts, strengthening international legal cooperation, and preservation of world cultural heritage will be discussed.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan (WOSCU), commented:
“The most important part of the upcoming event will be the ceremonial handover of cultural artifacts that were illegally taken abroad to the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. This is a clear demonstration of the international community’s support for the policy of the President of Uzbekistan in returning cultural heritage. It also shows the strengthening of international cooperation in protecting cultural and historical heritage, restitution, and preserving the memory of humanity. We also plan to visit a number of art galleries, as well as participate in auctions such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, with the aim of acquiring several unique items related to Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage.”
As part of the event, a presentation will also be held of a new fundamental scientific publication issued by WOSCU — “The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections” series, titled “The Manuscript Heritage of Central Asia in the Libraries of the University of Cambridge.” This scientific project was prepared over three years in collaboration between Dr. Firuza Melville and Uzbek specialists.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Academy of Sciences, the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, as well as a number of state and public organizations.
Today, the name of Amir Temur is once again being mentioned with special significance — as a symbol of wisdom in governance, strategic thinking, and cultural creativity. The forum taking place in London once again confirms that the Timurid legacy continues to play an important role in uniting peoples, states, and academic communities in the modern world.
