Symposium dedicated to Amir Timur and the Timurid Renaissance to be held in Türkiye

The symposium is expected to explore the personality of Amir Timur and the role of the Timurid era in the advancement of science, culture, and the arts, as well as the processes of intellectual and cultural flourishing that emerged during this period. The Timurid Renaissance represents one of the most significant periods in Central Asian history, marked by remarkable achievements in science, architecture, literature, the arts, and intellectual life. Samarkand, Herat, Bukhara, Balkh, and other cities became major centers of learning and culture, while the scholars and creative figures who worked there made substantial contributions to the development of world civilization.

Studying this historical legacy and highlighting its contemporary significance is also one of the key areas of the scholarly and educational activities of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. The Center’s exhibition also extensively highlights the role of the Timurid era in the development of science and culture, the scholarly legacy of great thinkers, and the flourishing cultural environment that took shape during this period.

In particular, the transformation of Samarkand during the reign of Amir Timur into not only a major political center but also a hub of science and culture, followed by the outstanding scientific achievements in astronomy and mathematics during the reign of Mirzo Ulugbek, are regarded as important aspects of the Timurid Renaissance.

From this perspective, the international symposium being held in Ankara will contribute to a deeper study of the legacy of the Timurid era within the framework of international scholarly dialogue, facilitate the exchange of ideas among scholars from different countries, and advance research into the place of this period in the history of world civilization.

For information: In 2026, the 690th anniversary of the birth of the great statesman and military commander Amir Timur is being widely commemorated. On this occasion, a series of scholarly and educational events are being held in Uzbekistan to study the legacy of Amir Timur and the Timurids and promote it internationally. In particular, on 9–10 April, the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, hosted an international academic conference dedicated to the 690th anniversary of Amir Timur’s birth. The conference brought together local and international scholars and specialists in Timurid studies to discuss the place of Amir Timur and Timurid civilization in world history, science, and culture.
