The Kiswah and a 13th-century key to the Kaaba on display in the exposition drew the attention of UN experts
A deer figurine dating back to the 1st millennium BCE, objects adorned with gold and emeralds, and a 13th-century key to the Kaaba… The delegation of the United Nations (UN) felt as though they were traveling through the pages of history as they witnessed the harmony of history and technology at the Islamic Civilization Center.
Specialists from the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the EU–UN Joint Programme visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
During the visit, the guests became closely acquainted with various expositions of the Center. In particular, a deer figurine dating back to the 1st millennium BCE, displayed in the “Pre-Islamic Period” section, drew the attention of the delegation members. The remarkable state of preservation and the delicacy of its details astonished everyone.
Exhibits related to the Seljuk period in the First Renaissance section also aroused great interest among the visitors. Objects decorated with gold and emeralds, the Kaaba’s Kiswah, and a 13th-century key to the Kaaba door deeply impressed them. These exhibits were valued not only for their historical significance but also as symbols of friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia.
The integration of rich historical artifacts with modern technologies in the Center’s expositions left a strong impression on the guests. Through interactive screens, visitors were able to view the objects closely and even experience their textures, making them feel as though they had become participants in history.
“Visiting this museum has been one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. The combination of Uzbekistan’s and the region’s rich history with modern technologies is truly impressive. One feels as if immersed in the atmosphere of that era. I recommend everyone to visit this Center. The exposition clearly reflects the major goals envisioned under the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the implementation of the ‘Uzbekistan – 2030’ national strategy.”
Nadezhda Lutenko, UN Expert:
“The Center unites all periods of Uzbekistan’s history in one place. Here, traditional cultural elements are harmoniously combined with modern installations. The interactive opportunities for young people are particularly engaging — through screens, one can view artifacts, feel objects, and directly explore the textures of books and garments. The information provided to us allowed for a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of each exhibit. Here, you truly feel like a part of real history.”
The delegation also emphasized that the future of New Uzbekistan is bright and that the country’s international standing continues to grow steadily.
