IOC representative: “Very impressive”
“Young people here are not just spectators, but participants.” This remark by a member of the International Olympic Committee became one of the key conclusions of the visit to the Islamic Civilization Center. The delegation described the Center as a vivid example of the harmonious integration of spiritual education and modern sporting values.
A delegation of international sports representatives visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, established at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The guests paid particular attention to the ancient city maps, archaeological discoveries, and historical information presented in the exhibitions regarding physical development, discipline, and spiritual education within Islamic civilization.
During the visit, delegation members showed interest in exhibits displayed in the Pre-Islamic Period section, including chess pieces, Amir Temur chess, and the Temur’s Code (Temur Tuzuklari), focusing on their historical significance and their connection to specific periods and regions.
Daniel Gyurta, Member of the International Olympic Committee:
Here, one can see a great deal of information about the history of Islam. It is truly very impressive.
In my opinion, the Center can serve as a unique bridge between the past and the future. In this regard, it is extremely beneficial and engaging for young people. Young visitors are not merely spectators in this museum; they can become part of it and actively participate in its processes. This is very important for the younger generation. Personally, this place has left a strong impression on me as well.
Uzbekistan is paying significant attention to the field of sports and investing substantial resources in its development. Just a few weeks ago, the General Assembly of the Olympic Committee was held here and was organized very successfully. It is also clearly evident that considerable funds are being allocated to modern sports infrastructure and facilities. I am confident that as a result of such attention and efforts, achievements will continue to grow year by year.
At the conclusion of the visit, representatives of the international sports community emphasized that the Center’s exhibitions comprehensively reveal the historical, spiritual, and social dimensions of Islamic civilization, while also maintaining harmony with the philosophy of modern sports.
