Yeni Konya: “A Magnificent Complex in Tashkent: Islamic Civilization Center”

In an article published in the Turkish newspaper “Yeni Konya,” the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, built in Tashkent, was recognized as a symbol of the scientific and spiritual rise of the New Uzbekistan. The publication describes the center not only as a magnificent architectural structure, but also as a vast cultural and educational space that connects the past, present, and future. The article emphasizes that the project demonstrates the country’s historical contribution to the development of Islamic civilization through modern technologies and unique exhibitions, and also highlights it as a strategic step toward preserving national heritage and presenting it to the global community.

In recent years, reforms, initiatives, investments, and large-scale projects aimed at historical, scientific, cultural, and technological development have been rapidly and commendably advancing in Uzbekistan. The scientific and cultural potential of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the country’s senior state leaders, along with their national and spiritual awareness and broad strategic vision for the future, are reflected in many major projects.

The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, which is planned to open in Tashkent at the end of March, is considered a unique project created on the basis of a perfect concept and can be described in one word as a magnificent structure and an exceptional masterpiece.

While historical monuments are being restored in Uzbekistan, new and monumental buildings harmonizing with ancient architectural traditions are also being constructed. Along with the Imam Bukhari complex in Samarkand, the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan has been built in Tashkent in the style of traditional architecture across a vast territory. It has been designed as a multifaceted, meaningful, and high-level center that serves as an important cultural and educational space connecting the past with the present and the future. The content of the center, its interior and exterior architectural solutions, exhibitions, and artistic decorations have been meticulously planned to an impressive degree, making it a truly unique complex.

The foundation stone of this center was laid during the days of Eid al-Fitr in 2018. During Eid al-Fitr, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized in his speech that the beginning of the construction of the Islamic Civilization Center carried profound meaning. According to reports, the official opening of the center is planned for Ramadan in 2026, on the eve of Eid, and during the Eid days it will be open to visitors.

This center, described as a unique masterpiece of the period referred to as “the rising horizon of the New Uzbekistan and the era of the Third Renaissance,” presents the history of ancient civilizations and Islamic civilization through a harmonious combination of refined artistic solutions and modern technologies. Various sections of the center are also presented on social media and digital platforms. It represents a comprehensive cultural and scientific complex with exhibition halls, research centers, a rich library, and a manuscript collection.

The center is regarded as “an important step toward preserving cultural heritage, supporting scientific research, and developing modern cultural and educational centers.”

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said about the project:

“The purpose of establishing this center is to deeply study the essence of Islamic enlightenment and to convey the great heritage left by our ancestors both to our people and to the global community.”

According to available information, the center is 161 meters long and 118 meters wide and consists of three floors. Its architectural design reflects the harmony of ancient architectural traditions and national ornamentation. On the four sides of the building there are portals reaching a height of 34 meters, while in the central part rises a magnificent dome 65 meters high.

At the very center of the complex is the Qur’an Hall. One of the most valuable spiritual relics of the Muslim world — the ancient Uthman Mushaf — is preserved here. In addition, copies of the Holy Qur’an from the Samanid, Karakhanid, Khwarazmshah, and Timurid periods, translations into the Chagatai language, and rare Qur’anic manuscripts are exhibited here.

More than 1,500 specialists from over 40 countries participated in the development of the scientific, architectural, and cultural concept of the Islamic Civilization Center.

The Islamic Civilization Center vividly reflects the scientific and cultural revival observed in Uzbekistan in recent years, the renewal of social thinking, and spiritual progress. Therefore, it is recommended that every person visiting Tashkent should certainly see this magnificent and unique center.
