A Hungarian university proposes scientific cooperation

13.03.2026, 18:11953

A delegation led by Gergely Deli, Rector of the Ludovika University of Public Service of Hungary, visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and closely familiarized themselves with the museum exhibitions. As the guests carefully explored the halls of the Center, they paid particular attention to the historical heritage and modern exhibition solutions presented in each section.

Members of the delegation were especially impressed by the “Wall of Civilizations and Discoveries” in the exhibition titled “Civilizations of the Pre-Islamic Period.” The bas-relief composition depicts ancient civilizations such as Bactria, Khorezm, Sogd, Chach and Fergana, as well as the trade and cultural connections formed along the Great Silk Road. The guests noted that through this exhibition the region’s centuries-long history and stages of civilizational development are presented in a powerful and engaging manner.

The section dedicated to the “First Renaissance” also attracted the delegation’s attention. In particular, the 12th-century chess pieces sparked great interest among the visitors. It was emphasized that their unique form and history clearly demonstrate the high level of scientific and cultural development in Central Asia during that period.

Information about the architecture of the Mag‘oki Attori Mosque in Bukhara, dating back to the 9th–10th centuries, also drew the attention of the delegation members. They were especially amazed by how the mosque’s double-domed acoustic system had been ingeniously designed by architects of that time.

The architectural decorations and artistic elements of the “Second Renaissance” exhibition dedicated to the Timurid period, particularly the ornamentation of the monumental domes of Samarkand and their delicate craftsmanship, left a deep impression on the delegation. They expressed admiration that such sophisticated works of art had been created as early as that era.

The modern interactive technologies used in the museum also generated strong interest among the delegation members. In particular, the opportunity to interact with avatars of historical figures provided an unexpected and fascinating experience for the visitors. They asked questions to the avatar of Mirzo Ulugbek and noted that such innovative solutions make history more vivid and engaging.

Gergely Deli, Rector of the Ludovika University of Public Service of Hungary:

“To be honest, this is one of the most beautiful museums I have ever seen in my life. It is very innovative and modern. My first thought was that I must bring my children here—they absolutely need to see this place. The museum stands out for its interactivity and modern solutions. At the same time, it provides very rich information about the history of this region and Uzbekistan.

I found it difficult to separate the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods because both are extremely impressive. However, the section dedicated to chess and the chess pieces left a particularly strong impression on me.

If I were to compare it, the museum in Warsaw comes to mind. There is a modern and innovative museum there dedicated to the history of Jews in Poland. But it has fewer diverse ideas and methods than what I see here. This center brings together many new solutions, interactive games and creative concepts.

Another example would be museums in London. They are also very impressive. However, the British Museum follows a more traditional approach, meaning that a certain distance is maintained between the exhibit and the visitor. Here it is the opposite: visitors can touch exhibits, smell spices and listen to music. For this reason, this museum creates a much closer and more human atmosphere for visitors.

In my opinion, visual solutions are extremely important for the younger generation. Films, animations and images created with artificial intelligence attract their attention because they live in the era of visual culture. Therefore, placing many videos and visual materials here is a very correct decision.

For young people, the most essential thing is to have a clear direction, a clear idea and an understanding of their mission in life. I believe that by visiting this center they can find inspiration to discover their own path and define their goals in life.”

Liliana Śmiech, Director-General for International Relations at the Ludovika University of Public Service of Hungary:

“I am confident that this center will attract many visitors from different parts of the world. In my opinion, it is extremely important not only for young researchers but also for all scholars studying this region. It is also of great interest to our university.

Recently, a Center for Turkic Studies was established at our university. Therefore, we would be pleased to promote your center and establish cooperation in the future.

People will come here primarily to gain new knowledge because this region possesses a very rich and important history. At the same time, the opportunity to see and experience the culture and religion of Uzbekistan in such a beautiful city as Tashkent makes this visit even more meaningful.”
