Bernama TV: “Uzbekistan invites Malaysians to explore Central Asian History through the Islamic Civilization Center”

A report published by Malaysia’s Bernama news agency highlighted the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan as an important scientific and cultural institution that showcases the rich history of Central Asia and the development of Islamic civilization. The article emphasized that the Center is a modern complex that includes a museum, research laboratories and large libraries, serving to study the region’s scientific heritage and promote international cultural and academic cooperation.

Tashkent (Uzbekistan), March 13 (Bernama) — The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan has invited Malaysians to explore the rich history of Central Asia and to become more closely acquainted with the activities of this center, which is considered an important symbol of the development of Islamic and human civilization in the region.

According to the Center’s Scientific Secretary, Rustam Jabborov, the institution is a comprehensive cultural project that includes modern facilities such as a museum, conference halls, research laboratories and a library. All of these are dedicated to preserving Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage, scientific knowledge and historical legacy.

“These facilities transform the Center into an important academic and cultural platform that demonstrates the development of civilization and highlights the role of Islamic scholarship and culture in this region,” he said.

He also noted that Anwar Ibrahim expressed significant interest in the Center during his visit to Uzbekistan in 2024. This is expected to open new opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of Islamic civilization, education and culture.

Jabborov made these remarks in an exclusive interview with the Bernama news agency.

According to him, the Center has two modern libraries, one of which is considered among the largest in Central Asia. It houses more than 1,000 printed books and over one million electronic books. In addition, a cooperation network has been established with several major libraries around the world.

The Center’s main museum consists of five important sections that present the development of civilization in the territory of Uzbekistan from the pre-Islamic period to the present day.

Jabborov emphasized that Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, was once a culturally rich and diverse center of civilization and witnessed remarkable achievements in science, astronomy and the arts.

He noted that after the spread of Islam in the region in the 8th century, Uzbekistan became a major center of scholarship, producing many renowned Islamic scholars such as Imam al-Bukhari, Imam at-Tirmidhi, Abu Rayhan Beruni and Imam Maturidi.

These great figures emerged from Central Asia, particularly from the territory of present-day Uzbekistan, and made an immense contribution to the advancement of science and Islamic civilization.

Jabborov added that during the reign of Amir Temur in the 14th century, the region experienced a further rise in civilization, as intellectual and cultural life that had been devastated after the Mongol invasions was revived. This revival paved the way for the Timurid Renaissance in Central Asia.

He also pointed out that during this period the region became an important crossroads for merchants and envoys arriving from nearby regions such as Iran, Türkiye and China. The influence of the Timurid state extended for several centuries and reached as far as the Indian subcontinent.

After the Timurid era, several dynasties, including the Shaybanid and Ashtarkhanid dynasties, also made significant contributions to the development of civilization in the region.

Jabborov further noted that since 2017, under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has been implementing large-scale reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable development in the fields of the economy, culture, education, arts and sports.
