History illuminated by light: a 3D mapping show is being presented at the Islamic Civilization Center
A new cultural space where modern technology and historical memory converge is now being showcased in the heart of Tashkent. The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, established on the initiative and vision of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has been officially opened, and a unique 3D mapping show is being presented to audiences. This project stands out as one of the first major initiatives in Uzbekistan’s museum space aimed at conveying the ideas of history and enlightenment through modern digital technologies.
Today, the Islamic Civilization Center attracts public attention not only with its scientific and educational content, but also with its innovative and creative solutions. While the interior exhibitions are organized using advanced digital technologies, the exterior architectural appearance has also been transformed into a unique stage for spectators. As the sun sets and darkness falls, the 3D mapping show displayed on the walls of the Center, combining light, color, and motion, brings history vividly to life before the audience’s eyes.
To watch this mapping show, more than 5,000 local residents and foreign guests gathered around the Center. The performance was presented in two sessions, each met with great interest and applause. Before the show began, the Center’s Director, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, warmly congratulated the guests on the occasion of the holiday and expressed confidence that this visual project would evoke unique emotions in every viewer and offer a new way to experience history and enlightenment.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Center:
“Through the mapping show titled ‘Civilizations, Personalities, and Discoveries,’ our people, especially the younger generation, will have the opportunity to become more closely acquainted with the rich and invaluable history of our country. This unique project is significant in that it strengthens feelings of love and pride for the Motherland in their hearts and inspires a high spirit of patriotism.
At the same time, in the eyes of foreign guests, Uzbekistan is being presented even more vividly as a land of great scholars who possess a majestic historical and cultural heritage and have made an invaluable contribution to the development of world civilization.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the creators who participated in the development of this work of art of high artistic and spiritual significance.
This mapping show is a worthy gift for all visitors and pilgrims to the Center on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and Navruz, and there is no doubt that it will become one of the most beloved and unforgettable cultural projects for visitors in the future as well.”
The author of the mapping show’s text is Bobur Bobomurod, Honored Cultural Worker of Uzbekistan and poet. His poetic text, harmonized with light and visual projections, conveys not only historical events but also spiritual and philosophical ideas to the audience.
Bobur Bobomurod, Honored Cultural Worker of Uzbekistan, poet:
“I am very excited — it is difficult to fully express the atmosphere and grandeur of this place in words. To be honest, we dreamed of reaching these days, but we could not even imagine that the result would be at this level. This is the result of great effort and research.
This idea of our President was shaped under the guidance of our mentor Khayriddin Sultanov and the leadership of the Center. Although the qasida was written in one sitting, it was later repeatedly revised, refined, and brought to its current perfect form.
I have always lived with one dream — to express the rich and vast history of our people in a simple, fluent, and understandable language. I wanted it to be a work that people would not only read, but also memorize and repeat. Today, in a certain sense, that intention seems to have come true.”
The central scene of the performance begins with the symbol of the Holy Qur’an. At this moment, the walls of the Center appear to become transparent, light enters inside, and the pages of the sacred book come to life through illumination. At the same time, the Surah “Iqra” is recited, presenting the idea of knowledge and enlightenment as the spiritual foundation of the entire performance.
Shukhrat Zokirov, member of the Council of the Guild of Authors and Performers of Uzbekistan, composer:
“This project was realized through the efforts of many people. In my opinion, the project was executed at a perfect level — such a project has not yet existed in Central Asia. Through 3D mapping in this building, historical images come to life, combined with music and sound. As a result, historical events are presented in a fully immersive way over 25 minutes. I believe the project was completed at a very high level, with attention paid to every minute detail. The most difficult part was ensuring that the sound was powerful and clearly audible across the space. Every detail was revised multiple times, at least 15–20 times.”
Technologically, the project is also complex and large-scale. The 3D mapping show was developed by the Russian company “Sila Sveta” on the initiative and commission of the Islamic Civilization Center. A total of 47 high-powered “Barco” projectors were used in the creation of the show. Behind this 25-minute visual performance stands the work of more than 100 creative and technical specialists.
Aleksandr Us, co-founder and creative director of “Sila Sveta”:
“To be honest, I am truly amazed by the history of Uzbekistan. Our artists were also deeply impressed. We worked on this project with great enthusiasm for more than half a year, gathered materials, traveled across regions, and studied heroes who had a great influence on history, including world history. People should know about this, and therefore we proudly say that this show is being presented on the walls of the Islamic Civilization Center, with the main goal of inspiring young people to achieve new accomplishments.
There are very few, almost no equivalents to this project, as the most advanced laser projectors have been used and the show is presented on a permanent basis. Even in Dubai, there is no project like this.”
“Tears are coming to my eyes — I am so deeply moved. I am grateful to our President for creating such a blessed place. To see our history come alive in this way is a great happiness. We have read about it in books, but we never imagined its grandeur to this extent. Now, seeing it, our sense of pride is even stronger.”
Ibrohim Avazov, viewer:
“The modern approach implemented here left a strong impression on me. Historical events are presented in such a vivid and interactive way that you feel as if you are living within that era. I believe this project is especially important for children. Today, interest in reading books has somewhat declined, but the information they see and hear here will certainly spark their curiosity. Every historical figure and every era comes to life for them, and this knowledge will undoubtedly bear fruit in the future.”
