For the first time in Uzbekistan: books are “disinfected” using ultraviolet light
The modern innovative library established at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan is equipped with the capability to sterilize books.
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan — a major institution that plays an important role in the cultural and scientific life of the country — is effectively functioning as a modern hub of knowledge and enlightenment.
By integrating a modern museum, a scientific research center, and an innovative library, the Center presents the heritage of our ancestors to the wider public in a new format.
The modern library is not merely a place for storing books, but an intellectual environment and an advanced information space equipped with digital technologies. Here, rare sources, electronic resources, and interactive services are combined, creating maximum convenience and efficiency for users. Most importantly, alongside information services, ensuring a healthy and safe environment is also considered one of the key priorities.
In modern libraries, the implementation of special technologies that meet hygiene standards is of great importance. As one such innovative solution, the library has been equipped with “LIVA LBS601” book sterilizers manufactured by the South Korean company “Evertree Co., Ltd.”
This device is capable of sterilizing up to six books at the same time within a short period. Currently, two such sterilizers are available in the Center’s library, enabling the rapid and effective cleaning of hundreds of books throughout the day. Books are placed inside a special chamber, the device door is closed, and the UV-C lamps are activated. An internal fan gently opens the pages, allowing ultraviolet rays to reach even the inner parts of the book. As a result, the books are fully disinfected. Users can also observe this process directly through the device’s viewing window.
Sarvar Mamatqulov, Project Manager at “Smart Library” company:
LIVA sterilizers are capable of fully disinfecting books in just 60 seconds. The ultraviolet rays penetrate both the inner and outer parts of the book, eliminating bacteria and other harmful elements. This not only protects the health of users but also contributes to creating a modern and safe environment within the library.
The introduction of such modern technologies demonstrates that the library at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan offers not only opportunities for learning but also ensures a healthy and safe environment. In this regard, the library stands as an advanced model where innovation and spirituality are harmoniously combined.
For reference, the New Uzbekistan Innovative Library established at the Center can serve 266 users at the same time.
The library has a capacity of 300,000 printed books, with 250,000 stored in storage facilities and 50,000 placed in the open-access collection and on bookshelves within the museum exhibitions.
The library also holds a collection of more than 300,000 electronic books. Through access to local and international databases, users can utilize more than 10 million electronic resources. Currently, the total physical collection of the library exceeds 35,000 volumes.
