A psychological seminar was organized at the Islamic Civilization Center within the framework of a new model for training tour guides
A completely new, systematic model for training tour guides is being introduced into practice by the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. Within this approach, special attention is given not only to the professional knowledge of guides, but also to their personal development, psychological preparedness, and the formation of a culture of communication with visitors.
As one of the key stages of this training process, a special psychological seminar was organized for the guides at the end of a two-week course. The seminar was attended by psychologist Nargiz Sattarova, who shared her practical experience and professional knowledge.
Nargiz Sattarova, psychologist:
“A guide is the most important link between the center and the visitor. It is through their professionalism that a visitor’s overall impression of the entire center is formed. Therefore, the main principle promoted is the idea of ‘being memorable’ — that is, every guide should remain in the visitor’s memory through their unique style, knowledge, and manner of communication.
The interest and attitude toward the work demonstrated by the young participants during the meeting deserve special attention. It was evident that for them, working in this field is not only an honor but also a great responsibility. Most importantly, they have a strong desire to work on themselves and to present knowledge in an engaging and refined way.”
During the seminar, participants were thoroughly introduced to key aspects such as the culture of communication with visitors, working with different audiences, presenting themselves confidently, and speaking with assurance. In addition, practical recommendations were provided on overcoming anxiety and fear before starting a new role, managing stress and pressure effectively, and making quick and correct decisions in unexpected situations.
Hilola Olimova, a third-year student at the Tashkent State University of Economics:
“Currently, we are acquiring practical knowledge and skills taught by specialists. In particular, under the guidance of the Center’s Scientific Secretary Rustam Jabborov, we received detailed information about each exhibit in the center’s expositions, as well as historical figures and cultural heritage. We also had lessons in public speaking delivered by announcer Dildora Umarova.
Today, we participated in psychological training sessions with Nargiz Sattarova. During these lessons, we are learning important skills such as effective communication with visitors, adapting to different situations, and maintaining emotional stability.”
The training was conducted in an interactive format, allowing participants to explore their inner potential through various exercises, strengthen their communication skills, and gain experience in presenting themselves appropriately in front of visitors. It was emphasized that the advice provided by Nargiz Sattarova would play an important role in the guides’ future professional activities.
As specifically noted, this approach aims to shape guides not as mere transmitters of information, but as true cultural ambassadors who present the nation’s culture and its rich centuries-old history with high standards of professionalism, responsibility, and expressiveness.
This initiative is in harmony with the large-scale spiritual and educational reforms being implemented in New Uzbekistan, particularly the ideas of the Third Renaissance, and is recognized as an important step toward promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage with dignity on the international stage.
