Italian deputies are amazed: “This place in Tashkent is a unique center that unites history and the future”
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, officially recognized as the largest museum of Islamic civilization in the world, has been awarded the prestigious title of Guinness World Records. This grand complex, established at the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, today stands at the center of attention not only in the country but also across the global community.
This time, the distinguished list of visitors was continued by a delegation led by Fabrizio Bensoni, a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic and head of the “Italy–Uzbekistan” friendship group. The delegation also included Anna Amari, Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Uzbekistan.
From the very first moments upon entering the Center, the guests highly appreciated its grand architectural concept, scale, and refined design. In particular, the four entrance gates of the Center, each carrying its own symbolic meaning, aroused great interest among the delegation. Entering through the main gate — the Ulugbek portal — they paid special attention to the verses from the Surah “Alaq” inscribed above the entrance.
The tour began with the “Gallery of Great Figures,” where outstanding scholars of the First and Second Renaissance periods are depicted through micro-mosaics composed of 110 different colors, leaving a strong impression on the visitors. These handcrafted works of art were highly valued not only for their historical significance but also for their aesthetic excellence.
In the section dedicated to the pre-Islamic period, the delegation became acquainted with the earliest stages of human civilization. In particular, depictions of the Stone Age lifestyle, hunting scenes, and animal figures engraved on rocks sparked great interest. The sections devoted to the civilizations of Bactria, Khorezm, Fergana, and Chach were noted as especially impressive. The presentation of early irrigation systems in Khorezm through modern technologies allowed guests to vividly experience the atmosphere of that era.
Fabrizio Bensoni, member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic and head of the “Italy–Uzbekistan” friendship group:
“One of the most impressive aspects of the Center is the harmonious combination of ancient spirit and modernity in its architectural design. The use of interactive and multi-format approaches enables visitors of different ages to effectively engage with culture, religion, and history. In particular, this interactivity and diversity of presentation stand out as the museum’s greatest strengths.
The inclusion of the Center in the Guinness World Records is a fully justified and well-deserved decision. With its scale, grandeur, and rich content, it ranks among the largest and most magnificent museums in the world. This recognition further reinforces the significance and scope of this project.”
In the First Renaissance section, gold artifacts from the Seljuk period, especially the ruler’s tughra, attracted particular attention from the delegation. These exhibits were noted for reflecting the high level of statehood and cultural development within Islamic civilization.
In the Second Renaissance section, the extensive presentation of the history and culture of the era of Amir Temur left a strong impression on the guests. A copy of the Holy Qur’an transcribed by Umar Aqta, as well as the opportunity to “interact” with Amir Temur and his descendants through interactive technologies, amazed the delegation. Information about the governance system and diplomatic relations during Amir Temur’s reign also generated great interest. The 22-kilogram Bibikhanum garment, in particular, left a deep impression on Anna Amari.
Anna Amari, Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Uzbekistan:
“The Islamic Civilization Center leaves a remarkable impression as a unique place that clearly reflects the refined aesthetic taste of the Uzbek people. Islamic culture stands out through its harmony of vibrancy, diversity, and sincerity. In this regard, it can serve as an example not only locally but also on an international scale.
The inclusion of the Center in the Guinness World Records confirms that it is an exceptionally large-scale project implemented at a very high level. This recognition demonstrates the determination and capability of the Uzbek people in achieving great goals.”
The section titled “New Uzbekistan — Foundation of a New Renaissance,” which presents the development strategy up to 2050, was highly appreciated by the delegation. They emphasized that they clearly felt the strong connection between history and the future in this space.
At the end of the tour, the guests visited one of the most impressive parts of the Center — the Hall of the Holy Qur’an. The 7th-century Uthman Mushaf placed at the center of the hall, surrounded by 114 Qur’an copies, along with a four-minute mapping hologram, created a deep emotional impression on the delegation. In particular, the reflection of the Uzbekistan flag on the 45-ton chandelier at the end of the hologram evoked great admiration and interest.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Italian delegation highly praised the activities of the Center, recognizing it as an important scientific and educational platform not only for Uzbekistan but for the entire world. They also emphasized that such institutions play a crucial role in strengthening cultural dialogue among nations.
