Chairman of the board of directors of Euronews: “This is one of the finest museums created in recent decades”
Pedro Vargas David, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews media network, visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and explored the exhibitions dedicated to the country’s historical, scientific, and cultural heritage.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Center’s main sections. The guests were particularly impressed by the Seljuk-era gold jewelry and the Kiswah — the covering of the Kaaba — displayed among the Center’s exhibits.
The delegation also visited the Congress Hall of the Islamic Civilization Center and showed great interest in the exhibitions dedicated to the observatory of Mirzo Ulugbek and the scientific legacy of the great astronomer.
As part of the visit, discussions were held regarding future cooperation between the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and the Euronews television network. The parties discussed prospects for expanding media cooperation in promoting cultural and historical heritage, as well as enhancing the international promotion of Uzbekistan’s rich history and strengthening global dialogue.
Pedro Vargas David, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews media network:
First of all, I would like to emphasize that it is a great honor and immense pleasure for me to visit this Center for the first time. What I saw today left a truly astonishing impression on me. Without any hesitation, I can say that this is one of the finest museums created by humanity in recent decades.
This place is a unique site of symbolic importance not only for Tashkent, Uzbekistan, or Central Asia, but for all humanity. It reflects the history of a country with an extraordinarily rich heritage. Most importantly, you can feel the continuity of this history from the past to the present day. You realize that the country has a clear vision of its future and is already building it today.
The world still has many new aspects of Uzbekistan to discover. Located at the crossroads of East and West along the Great Silk Road, this land seems like a dream destination for many people. People dream of Samarkand and Bukhara, yet not everyone has had the opportunity to see them with their own eyes.
In my opinion, this Center takes visitors on a journey through different periods of the country’s history and presents all of them within a single space. If someone is discovering Uzbekistan for the first time, they should begin their journey here. And if they have already visited Samarkand, Bukhara, and other cities, they should conclude their trip at this Center. Because here, the entire historical panorama of the country is brought together.
I also believe that this Center will become a source of inspiration for future generations. We saw many children here today, and that is extremely important. No nation can build its future without understanding and respecting its history. Places like this help humanity learn from the past and create a strong foundation for the future.
At the conclusion of the visit, Pedro Vargas David left his wishes and remarks in the Book of Honored Guests of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
