The history behind the patterns: Specialists from a London School of arts witnessed a living source of inspiration
Specialists from the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with representatives of the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
During the visit, the guests closely explored the Center’s museum exhibitions, architectural solutions, authentic artifacts, and examples of the nation’s cultural heritage. The building’s exterior appearance, particularly the harmonious combination of traditional national architectural elements and modern design solutions reflected in its facade, sparked great interest among the visitors.
According to the guests, the ceramic tiles, miniature art pieces, and traditional handicrafts displayed in the exhibitions vividly demonstrate that Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage possesses not only historical significance but also outstanding artistic value.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the visit was that specialists from the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts noted they had spent the past two weeks studying traditional Uzbek geometric and islamic patterns together with students. The visitors were especially fascinated to discover that some of the patterns analyzed during their lessons were also present in the Center’s exhibitions.
Dr. Lisa DeLong, a representative of the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, shared her impressions of the Center. According to her, the authentic artifacts displayed at the Center, particularly the ceramic tiles, miniature artworks, and traditional handicraft pieces, left a profound impression on her.
“This is a truly impressive building. In particular, the way Uzbekistan’s architectural heritage is reflected in such an elegant and distinctive manner on the exterior of the building inspired great admiration and interest. Over the past two weeks, together with students, we studied traditional Uzbek geometric and islamic patterns. We had been working on a specific pattern, and we saw the very same pattern here. It gave us the opportunity to witness in practice the knowledge we had gained during our lessons,” said Dr. Lisa DeLong.
