A scholarly meeting on cultivating a culture of critical thinking held at the library of the Islamic Civilization Center
A scholarly and educational event was held at the library of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan to mark the completion of the study of the renowned work Fawa’id Ziya’iyya by the great thinker Nuriddin Abdurahmon Jami, widely known among scholars as Sharh-i Mulla. The gathering, attended by second-year students of the Tashkent Islamic Institute, once again demonstrated that reading is not only a source of knowledge but also an essential means of cultivating a culture of critical thinking.
During the event, students shared the knowledge and insights they had gained while studying the work and exchanged views on its scholarly, educational, and ethical themes. Discussions held under the guidance of their instructors focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the text, analyzing its contemporary relevance, and exploring ways to apply its lessons in practice.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Zayniddin Eshonqulov, highlighted the significance of the achievement:
“Today, second-year students of the Tashkent Islamic Institute successfully completed the study of Abdurahmon Jami’s renowned work on Arabic grammar. Notably, this book is taught throughout the Arab world as one of the key sources in the science of Arabic syntax. The students did not simply read the text; in accordance with the traditional teacher-student method, they carefully mastered every line of it. The fact that such an event is being held at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan carries special symbolic significance. After all, the Center was established to promote knowledge and enlightenment and to introduce young people to our rich scholarly heritage”.
The decision to hold the event specifically at the library of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan added further meaning and value to the occasion. Today, the library serves not only as a repository of rare manuscripts and valuable sources but is also becoming an intellectual platform that brings together young researchers, students, and members of the scholarly community for meaningful educational dialogue.
Ulugbek Hasanov, Head of the Department of Languages at the Tashkent Islamic Institute named after Imam Bukhari, also emphasized the importance of the venue:
“The library of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan is home to the priceless scholarly heritage of our ancestors. It also contains sources related to Abdurahmon Jami and to Alisher Navoi, the great figure closely associated with the tradition of teacher-student mentorship. Organizing such an event in this scholarly environment further strengthens young people’s interest in books and learning. Most importantly, it has given students an opportunity to become acquainted with the library’s collections and rare manuscripts”.
At the conclusion of the event, participants shared their reflections and conclusions on the work, discussing its scholarly and educational significance. Such gatherings contribute to strengthening students’ abilities in independent thinking, analysis, and the proper understanding of the intellectual heritage passed down through generations.
The library of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan serves as an important venue for reviving traditions of intellectual pursuit, fostering a love of books, and bringing people together around knowledge. It continues to provide a meaningful space for scholarly meetings and educational dialogue.
