Imam Bukhari’s legacy recognized as a spiritual bridge between Uzbekistan and Indonesia
As part of the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum, the Indonesian delegation visiting Uzbekistan toured the Islamic Civilization Center, where they gained a deeper understanding of the country’s rich history, its long-standing traditions of scholarship and enlightenment, the cultural ties forged through historic trade routes, and Uzbekistan’s significant contribution to the development of Islamic civilization.
Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia:
“This is my first visit to Uzbekistan and to the Center. My first impression has been truly remarkable. The Center is impressive, comprehensive, and highly interactive. We learned a great deal about the emergence of Islamic civilization, the connections established through historic trade routes, and Uzbekistan’s vision for the future. I believe this Center brings history closer to people. It presents history not merely as information, but as an engaging and enjoyable experience,” said the Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.
The relationship between Indonesia and Uzbekistan extends far beyond today’s trade and economic cooperation. For Indonesia, home to one of the world’s largest Muslim populations, Uzbekistan’s place in the history of Islamic civilization — particularly the legacy of Imam Bukhari — holds profound spiritual significance. During the visit, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri also recalled the historical connection between Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, and the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari, noting that this shared heritage continues to inspire strong interest in Uzbekistan among the Indonesian people today.
