The intellectual arena of the third renaissance: 200 imams, scholars, and students gather at the Islamic Civilization Center
The scientific and educational event “The Crossroads of the Third Renaissance,” held at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, brought together nearly 200 representatives of the religious sphere, researchers, trainees, and students from different regions of the country.
The event was organized by the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Center.
It was held to promote the spiritual and educational reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, encourage the study and wide dissemination of the nation’s rich heritage, and raise public awareness of the vision and significance of the Third Renaissance, a key concept of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy.
Nearly 200 imams, deputy imams, trainees of the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training in the Religious and Educational Sphere under the Committee on Religious Affairs, and students of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan participated in the event. The participants arrived from the Andijan, Samarkand, and Khorezm regions, as well as the city of Tashkent.
As part of the program, the guests toured the Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, exploring its extensive museum exhibitions, modern library, rare manuscript collection, and innovative scientific and educational platform developed using advanced digital technologies.
During the tour, participants received detailed information about the history of the ancient civilizations that flourished in the territory of present-day Uzbekistan, the development of Islam in Central Asia, and the remarkable contributions of great hadith scholars, thinkers, and distinguished scholars to the advancement of world science and culture.
The program also highlighted the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of the First and Second Renaissances, their significance in the progress of human civilization, and the large-scale initiatives currently underway in New Uzbekistan to lay the foundations for the Third Renaissance.
The participants highly praised the Center’s modern infrastructure, vibrant academic environment, and the extensive opportunities it provides for researchers and scholars.
According to Muzaffar Avezov, Imam of the Mosque in Gurlan District, Khorezm Region, the project has attracted the close attention of the religious and academic community since the very beginning of its construction.
“We visited the site several times while the Center was still under construction and closely followed its progress. Today, seeing it fully completed has left a profound impression on us. What is particularly remarkable is the way the history of ancient civilizations, the development of Islamic culture, the legacy of the Renaissance periods, and the reforms of New Uzbekistan are presented within a single, coherent concept. Every exhibition here inspires visitors to pursue knowledge, research, and intellectual reflection,” he said.
Muzaffar Avezov also highly praised the Center’s library, emphasizing that its extensive collection of books, rare sources, and digital technologies provide outstanding opportunities for academic research.
Khursandbek Kamolov, Imam of the Hazrati Usman Mosque in Asaka District, Andijan Region, also highlighted the Center’s emergence as an international hub for scholarship and enlightenment.
“In the past, we only heard about renowned foreign libraries and research centers. Today, we have witnessed that such opportunities have been created in our own country. The digitization of rare manuscripts and the ability to access them freely are of tremendous importance for researchers. This Center will foster a love of knowledge, strengthen national pride, and preserve historical memory among young people,” he said.
At the conclusion of the event, the participants emphasized that the scholarly and educational environment established at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, together with its rich library collection, treasury of rare manuscripts, and innovative technologies, is playing a vital role in advancing science, promoting in-depth research into the nation's spiritual heritage, and preserving it for future generations.
