Uzbekistan is bringing together the intellectual future of the Islamic and Turkic worlds
With the aim of revealing the true essence of Islamic civilization, showcasing its immense contribution to science, culture, and spiritual development, and promoting the ideals of peace, tolerance, and enlightenment in the modern world, nearly 300 distinguished participants from more than 40 countries including statesmen, public figures, ministers, muftis, prominent scholars, academics, researchers, museum and library directors, and representatives of international organizations visited Uzbekistan at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The First International Islamic Civilization Center, held under the theme “The Path of Peace, Tolerance and Enlightenment” and inaugurated in Tashkent on 7 July, has become an important platform for discussing pressing issues facing the Islamic world and its future priorities.
Shahin Mustafayev, Academician, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, President of the International Turkic Academy:
“First of all, I am truly delighted to be here at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. This newly established institution is not only one of the most significant centers in Uzbekistan, but also one of the largest centers for Islamic studies in the entire Turkic world and beyond. For this reason, it is a source of pride for both Uzbekistan and the wider Turkic world. It is particularly significant that this Center was established at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Historically, Uzbekistan has been one of the foremost centers of Islamic culture, Islamic civilization, and Islamic intellectual life. It is the homeland of such great Islamic scholars as Imam Bukhari, Imam Tirmidhi, and Imam Maturidi. From this perspective, Uzbekistan has made an unparalleled contribution to Islamic culture and civilization. At the same time, the establishment of this Center demonstrates that Uzbekistan is once again emerging as one of the leading intellectual and cultural centers of the Islamic world.
Today, the First International Islamic Civilization Center, being held at this Center, has brought together distinguished thinkers, scholars, and public figures from across the Islamic world, the Turkic world, and many other countries. Undoubtedly, the Islamic world is currently facing a number of pressing challenges. Creating platforms like this, where such issues can be discussed, ideas exchanged, and solutions explored, is of immense importance.
This forum is not limited to discussing the concerns of Uzbekistan or Central Asia alone. It is, in fact, a significant global appeal that concerns the entire Islamic world and humanity as a whole. Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. At a time when the international system is facing serious challenges and instability is increasing, Islam continues to convey the universal values of peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding to all peoples and nations.
From this perspective, I believe this forum will become a lasting tradition. It is no coincidence that it is called the ‘First Forum.’ This means there will be a second, third, fifth, and many more editions in the future.
The challenges facing the world will never completely disappear. There will always be a need for international platforms where these issues can be discussed, ideas exchanged, and practical solutions developed. Uzbekistan’s role as the host of such a prestigious forum demonstrates that it is becoming one of the leading centers of the world, the Islamic world, and the Turkic world.”
