Imam of Masjid al-Haram commends Uzbekistan’s initiatives to revive Islamic heritage

09.07.2026, 10:44857

Today, 9 July, the international conference “Imam Bukhari’s Al-Jami’ as-Sahih – The Book of the Ummah” commenced in Samarkand as part of the First International Islamic Civilization Forum. Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, delivered a congratulatory address at the opening ceremony.

“On the occasion of this prestigious scholarly gathering, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Republic of Uzbekistan and its wise leader, His Excellency President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for their remarkable efforts. Just yesterday, we witnessed the First International Islamic Civilization Forum held at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, which was organized to the highest standards. Today, we are witnessing the work of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center and the opening of this important international scholarly conference hosted within its framework.

These achievements clearly demonstrate that Uzbekistan remains faithful to its national and religious values and that its leadership is guided by lofty aspirations, well-conceived plans, and a long-term vision for development. Here, Islamic civilization is viewed not merely as a historical legacy, but as a practical program for elevating human dignity, advancing knowledge and enlightenment, renewing understanding, and overcoming ignorance and stagnation.”

In his address, the distinguished scholar also highlighted the unparalleled status of Imam Bukhari in the Islamic world, the scholarly significance of Al-Jami’ as-Sahih, and the importance of educating younger generations on the basis of the great muhaddith’s enduring legacy.

“Today is a blessed day filled with honor and pride for all of us. It is a day on which we have gathered to reflect upon the life and legacy of one of the greatest scholars of our Ummah—Imam Bukhari, who spread knowledge throughout the world and rendered unparalleled service in preserving, studying, and transmitting the noble Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to future generations. It is a day to draw lessons and inspiration from his exemplary life.

From an early age, Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy upon him) understood the true value of knowledge and devoted his entire life to collecting and verifying the Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). As the fruit of this extraordinary dedication, Al-Jami’ as-Sahih the most authentic source after the Book of Allah came into existence. This masterpiece stands as a vivid testament that success is attained only through Allah’s guidance, steadfastness, perseverance, and tireless effort.

The life and scholarly legacy of Imam Bukhari constitute a school of inspiration for every Muslim. Today, more than ever, we must educate our children through the examples set by such great personalities, nurturing within them a love for knowledge, good character, and the pursuit of truth,” said Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid.

The Imam of Masjid al-Haram also emphasized that these noble initiatives are in harmony with similar efforts being undertaken across the Islamic world.

“We also wish to acknowledge the blessed efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in preserving the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the heritage of Islam. These initiatives are being carried out under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

May Almighty Allah increase their service to Islam, the Muslim Ummah, and all humanity.

We also highly appreciate the contribution of one of the Islamic world's leading international organizations the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) for its partnership with the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center in organizing this prestigious conference.”

In his address, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid also highlighted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to preserve the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the heritage of Islam, noting that the cooperation between ICESCO and the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center has made a significant contribution to the successful organization of this international conference.
