09.07.2026, 15:22848

On 9 July 2026, the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Imam Tirmidhi International Scientific Research Center, will hold an international scientific and practical conference in the city of Termez under the theme “The Termez School of Hadith: The Heritage of Scholars and Contemporary Research.”

This prestigious conference is being organized as an integral and significant component of the First International Islamic Civilization Forum, themed “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance and Enlightenment” a major international event that reflects the ongoing reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to lay the foundations of the Third Renaissance in New Uzbekistan, promote a deeper understanding of Islamic enlightenment, and present its rich intellectual heritage to the global community.

The conference will bring together representatives of leading international organizations, including ICESCO, IRCICA, TURKSOY, and the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, as well as the Committee on Religious Affairs, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Grand Muftis from foreign countries, distinguished hadith scholars, and international experts.

The event is expected to welcome 20 distinguished international participants from the United Kingdom, Algeria, Italy, Egypt, Pakistan, Türkiye, and the countries of Central Asia, including prominent religious scholars, human rights experts, specialists in Islamic studies, and other leading academics.

The primary objective of the conference is to promote an in-depth scholarly study of the Hadith school that emerged in Termez and the rich intellectual legacy left by its representatives, to examine the outstanding contributions of Imam Tirmidhi and other scholars from Termez to the development of Islamic civilization, and to promote this invaluable heritage on the international stage.

The conference will also address contemporary research in the field of Hadith studies, the study, digitization, and scholarly circulation of manuscript sources, as well as current issues related to the promotion of Islamic enlightenment and the values of humanism.

The international conference will be conducted in two stages. It will begin with a plenary session, followed by the work of two parallel thematic sections.

The conference sessions will be organized around the following thematic areas:

  • “Imam Tirmidhi and the Formation of the Termez School of Hadith Studies” will focus on the origins and development of the Termez Hadith School, its scholarly environment, the life and works of Imam Tirmidhi, and his outstanding contribution to the advancement of the science of Hadith.
  • “The Works of Scholars from Termez: Their Significance and Source-Based Analysis” will feature presentations on the manuscript and printed works of Termez scholars, their scholarly characteristics, source base, and research methodology.

A cultural and pilgrimage program has also been arranged for conference participants, including visits to the historical and pilgrimage sites of Surkhandarya Region. In particular, participants are scheduled to visit the Hakim Tirmidhi and Imam Tirmidhi memorial complexes located in the Termez and Sherabad districts.

The Fourth International Conference, “The Termez School of Hadith: The Heritage of Scholars and Contemporary Research,” will serve as an important international platform for promoting the rich scholarly heritage of the great hadith scholars and thinkers who emerged from the land of Termez, advancing the ideals of Islamic enlightenment, and strengthening academic dialogue among scholars from different countries.

It should be noted that the international conference in Termez is being held within the framework of the First International Islamic Civilization Forum, themed “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance and Enlightenment,” taking place across Uzbekistan from 6 to 11 July 2026. On the same day, two additional international conferences will also be held in the city of Samarkand.
