International presentations dedicated to the Islamic Civilization Center and the legacy of great scholars discussed in Geneva
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan is a major educational and cultural institution dedicated to promoting the country’s centuries-old scholarly and intellectual heritage, the invaluable scientific legacy of its great scholars, and its rich national cultural values to the international community. One of the Center’s primary objectives is to showcase Uzbekistan’s significant contribution to the development of Islamic civilization on the global stage, promote the legacy of its great ancestors through scholarly research, and further strengthen intercultural dialogue.
In line with these objectives, a series of important meetings was held in Geneva, Switzerland, to prepare for special presentations at the United Nations Office dedicated to the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and the legacy of the great scholars who emerged from the country.
The meetings brought together representatives of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, the Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Center, the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan (WOSCU), and Eldiyor Toshmatov, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva. During the negotiations held on July 17–18, the participants discussed expanding international cooperation and ensuring the successful organization of the forthcoming events.
In particular, during a meeting with Charlotte Varakol, Head of the Committee for the Organization of Cultural Events at the United Nations Office at Geneva, the participants exchanged views on the concept, substance, and international significance of the planned presentations. They also considered proposals to involve prominent scholars, experts, members of the diplomatic corps, and cultural figures in the events, thereby introducing Uzbekistan’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage to a broader international audience.
“For centuries, Uzbekistan has been one of the major centers of science, culture, and Islamic civilization. Initiated under the leadership and directives of our President, these presentations, to be held at prestigious international platforms such as UNESCO and the United Nations, will not only showcase our historical heritage but also contribute to the promotion of intercultural dialogue,” said Izzatbek Ibragimov, Deputy Director of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
“International experts, scholars, and members of the diplomatic corps will participate in the exhibitions and conferences. This once again highlights Uzbekistan’s role in promoting the ideals of peace, enlightenment, and scientific progress in the modern world.”
During the negotiations, organizational and technical aspects related to the exhibition layout, conference venues, and cultural programs were discussed with Thomas Erik Krieger, Coordinator for Protocol and Technical Services at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The parties also reached practical agreements to ensure the successful organization of the events at the highest level.
These meetings marked another important step toward strengthening the international standing of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, promoting the country’s rich spiritual and intellectual heritage on prestigious international platforms such as the United Nations, and introducing the global community to Uzbekistan’s significant contribution to the advancement of science and civilization.
