Hong Kong’s public broadcaster RTHK gave extensive coverage to the cooperation memorandum signed between the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan and the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The report highlighted that the agreement will promote joint exhibitions, academic research, professional training, and the exchange of expertise in the fields of Islamic culture and art. It also noted plans to organize an exhibition dedicated to the Ancient Silk Road in Hong Kong in 2028, as well as the possibility of displaying rare artifacts from Hong Kong museum collections at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. This is the museum’s second cultural cooperation memorandum concluded this year with a cultural institution in Uzbekistan.

Museum Director Louis Ng stated that a memorandum of cooperation had also been signed with the National Museum of History of Uzbekistan last month, and preparations are currently underway for an exhibition on the Ancient Silk Road to be held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum in 2028. The exhibition is expected to showcase a number of China’s rare cultural heritage treasures.

According to him, the newly signed partnership with the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan will primarily focus on exchanges in the fields of Islamic culture and art. Over the coming years, the two institutions will implement joint exhibitions, research projects, and professional training programs. They are also exploring the possibility of exhibiting artifacts from Hong Kong museum collections—including gold objects and silk artworks at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. In addition, the two sides plan to promote staff exchanges, strengthen cooperation in education, and expand exchanges of expertise with museums across Central Asia.

Louis Ng noted that Uzbekistan is a country with a rich cultural heritage and that representatives of its cultural institutions have shown strong interest in cooperating with China. In his view, the visit of representatives of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan to Hong Kong and their participation in the lecture will further strengthen cultural ties between the two sides. He added that this cooperation will also reinforce Hong Kong’s role as an international hub for cultural and artistic exchange under China’s Fifteenth Five-Year Development Plan and demonstrates the importance of further deepening this partnership in the years ahead.
