Finland’s Special Envoy for Central Asia, Maria Ögren, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Portuguese Republic to Uzbekistan, Sara Ferro Ribeiro, visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. The diplomats described the Center as an important scientific and educational institution that presents Uzbekistan’s rich civilizational heritage to the international community, promotes intercultural dialogue, and strengthens mutual understanding among nations.

During their visit, Maria Ögren and Ambassador Sara Ferro Ribeiro toured the museum exhibition of the Islamic Civilization Center, established at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The diplomats were introduced to the Center’s exhibition concept, the First and Second Renaissance periods, the scholarly legacy of the great scholars who emerged from the land of Uzbekistan, rare manuscripts, archaeological discoveries, and museum displays created using advanced multimedia and interactive technologies.

The guests highly praised the Center’s concept of presenting Uzbekistan’s centuries-old historical and cultural heritage through modern museological approaches, as well as its significant role in advancing international cultural diplomacy.

Finland’s Special Envoy for Central Asia, Maria Ögren, emphasized that the Center plays an important role in preserving the historical memory and cultural heritage of nations and passing them on to future generations.

“The Center left a profound impression on me. It is essential for every nation to know its history and to build its future upon that history, culture, and traditions. I believe this idea has been successfully realized here. I was particularly impressed by the exhibitions depicting Uzbekistan’s ancient history. Finland also has a tradition of nomadic culture, and I was able to recognize certain similarities between the histories of our peoples. I am confident that cultural centers like this help bring nations closer together, deepen their understanding of each other’s history and culture, and strengthen mutual respect,” she said.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Portuguese Republic to Uzbekistan, Sara Ferro Ribeiro, described the Center as an important educational platform that fosters dialogue among different civilizations and cultures.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to visit this remarkable Center. It is especially important for people from European countries to gain a deeper understanding of Islamic civilization through culture, as culture is what brings nations closer together and strengthens mutual understanding. I was particularly impressed by the museum’s mosaic art, the collection of ancient jewelry, and the hall housing the Mushaf of Caliph Uthman. It was especially meaningful for me to learn that the pink marble columns in this hall were brought from Portugal. The digital technologies integrated throughout the Center make the exhibitions even more engaging for younger generations. For this reason, I would recommend that everyone, especially young people, visit this Center,” the Ambassador said.
