As part of the international media forum “Islamic Civilization: New Perspective — New Discoveries” in Tashkent, a presentation of special postage stamps dedicated to the opening of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan was held, along with a commemorative cancellation ceremony.

The ceremony was conducted by Sanjar Nizomov, a representative of Uzbekistan Post.

The postage stamps were issued on March 19 pursuant to Order No. 49 of the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 17, 2024. The series was printed as a miniature sheet comprising 23 postage stamps. A special gift album, souvenir album, postal envelope, and commemorative postmark were also produced to accompany the stamp series.

The postage stamps feature great historical figures who made invaluable contributions to the development of Uzbekistan’s civilization and world science, including Abu Ali ibn Sina, Amir Temur, Abu Rayhan Biruni, Ahmad Fergani, Alisher Navoi, Mirzo Ulugbek, Ali Qushchi, Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, and other prominent figures.

The stamps also feature rare artifacts dating from the 7th to the 16th centuries, as well as examples of cultural heritage from the First and Second Renaissance periods. The miniature sheets also bear the logo of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by Sherzod Asadov, Press Secretary to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Claus Strunz, CEO and Editorial Director of Euronews; Charlotte Kramer, President of Müller & Schindler publishing house; Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan; Imran Ahmad, Regional Director of CNN International; Abdusaid Kuchimov, Director General of the Uzbekistan National News Agency and Senator; and Abduqahhor Turdiyev, Head and Chief Architect of the Karak Project design organization.

During the key part of the ceremony, the participants officially cancelled the special postage stamps with a commemorative postmark. This traditional ceremony not only symbolically marks the issuance of the postage stamps but also serves to preserve the memory of the historic occasion.

As emphasized at the event, postage stamps are not merely a means of postal communication; they also serve as a distinctive instrument of cultural diplomacy, introducing a country’s history, culture, scientific heritage, and national values to the world. In this sense, the stamps dedicated to the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan represent another unique way of presenting Uzbekistan’s centuries-old scientific and spiritual heritage to the international community.

By depicting great scholars and historical artifacts, the special postage stamps make it possible to tell the story of an entire civilization through a single stamp. Each of them highlights the contribution of the traditions of science, culture, and intellectual thought that flourished on the territory of Uzbekistan to the development of world civilization.

At the conclusion of the event, participants were presented with gift albums featuring the stamp series, first-day covers, and special decorative elements. The guests also posed for a group photograph to commemorate the historic ceremony.

Thus, the ceremony held as part of the International Media Forum will be remembered as an important initiative aimed at showcasing Uzbekistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage to the world not only through museums and scholarly research, but also through the art of postage stamps.
