U.S. Senator Steve Daines at the Islamic Civilization Center: from a great heritage to modern progress

During the visit, the senator and members of the delegation explored the exhibitions of the Center’s museum. The guests were introduced to Uzbekistan’s rich historical and civilizational heritage, the contributions of the great scholars who emerged from this land to the development of world science and civilization, as well as innovative solutions aimed at presenting this heritage to a wider public through modern technologies.

The digital representations of great scholars created using artificial intelligence technologies attracted particular attention, as did the section dedicated to Amir Temur within the exhibition on the Second Renaissance and the period of the Uzbek khanates. The section provides a comprehensive account of Sahibqiran’s role as a statesman, builder, and patron of science and education. A chess exhibit associated with the era of Amir Temur also drew the senator’s special interest.

In the Holy Qur’an Hall, the delegation was shown the rare seventh-century Uthman Mushaf, as well as Qur’an manuscripts dating from various historical periods. These unique sources left a profound impression on the delegation members, as they embody the centuries-old written and spiritual heritage of Islamic civilization.

Following the tour of the Center, Senator Steve Daines shared his impressions of the visit and highly praised the project implemented at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“I congratulate President Mirziyoyev. This is truly an extraordinary museum — the largest Islamic museum in the world. It presents Uzbekistan’s remarkable history and the civilizational heritage that developed on this land in a highly compelling way, while also offering a bright vision of the future.

I believe the Center will contribute to a deeper understanding of Islamic history and civilization. Technology has been used effectively here, and the exhibitions have been designed in an interactive format. As a result, they are equally engaging and accessible for children, teenagers, and adults.

Today, relations between the United States and Uzbekistan are stronger than ever. Our countries have different religious and historical traditions. In this sense, the Center gives the American public an opportunity to better understand Uzbekistan and the Uzbek people and to gain a broader understanding of their values, faith, and worldview.

I was particularly impressed by the scientific achievements presented here — the knowledge and discoveries in astronomy, natural sciences, and other fields. Sometimes, in the modern era, we tend to think of ourselves as exceptionally intelligent. Yet the intellectual capacity of those who lived before us was also extraordinarily high. The scientific heritage and discoveries displayed here clearly demonstrate this once again,” said Senator Steve Daines.

According to the senator, the significance of the Center extends far beyond the presentation of historical heritage. It serves as an important platform for dialogue, helping to deepen mutual understanding among different peoples, cultures, and traditions, while also promoting Uzbekistan’s rich scientific and spiritual heritage to the international community.

At the conclusion of the visit, Senator Steve Daines recorded his impressions in the Book of Honored Guests. He was also presented with a special book titled “The Third Renaissance” as a commemorative gift on behalf of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. The publication highlights Uzbekistan’s three-thousand-year history, its rich civilizational heritage, and the development of New Uzbekistan.
