The practical aspects of an important initiative put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to widely present Uzbekistan’s rich civilizational heritage and the scholarly and spiritual legacy of its great thinkers to the international community were explored in New York. As part of preparations to hold special presentations at the United Nations Headquarters dedicated to the Islamic Civilization Center and the legacy of great scholars such as Imam Bukhari, Imam Maturidi, and Imam Tirmidhi, a number of organizational and technical issues were reviewed.

As previously reported, the working group visiting the United States for this purpose examined matters related to organizing the planned international event at the United Nations Headquarters.

As is known, the initiative to hold special presentations on the international stage was put forward by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the visit, specific tasks related to the practical implementation of this initiative were discussed.

Recently, the working group met with Ms. Tong-Maywald Xin, Sector Chief of the Central Planning and Coordination Division of the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management.

The meeting focused on the objectives, key themes, and organizational aspects of the international event planned to be held at the United Nations Headquarters. Komiljon Shermuhamedov, head of the working group, presented the draft concept of the event and provided information on the main areas of the planned conference.

Ms. Tong-Maywald Xin, representing the United Nations, offered proposals regarding the available conference halls and their capacities. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to further refine the concept based on the proposals put forward and submit it for approval in accordance with the established procedure.

A working-level meeting was also held with Nagi Nasr, an official from the Special Events Unit of the United Nations Department of Operational Support. The discussion focused on the technical aspects of organizing a special exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters.

Nagi Nasr reviewed the preliminary draft of the exhibition concept developed by the working group and provided information on the spaces available for hosting the exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters and their technical capabilities.

The members of the working group, accompanied by Nagi Nasr, also inspected the venues planned for the exhibition, conference, and official reception. Their technical capabilities, existing infrastructure, and the conditions required for organizing the events were assessed.

Thus, key organizational and technical issues related to holding events at the United Nations Headquarters aimed at showcasing the history of Islamic civilization in Uzbekistan, the legacy of its great scholars, and the country’s scholarly and educational potential were clarified.

As part of the visit, a number of agreements were also reached on holding special presentations in other U.S. states dedicated to the activities of the Islamic Civilization Center, the Imam Bukhari, Imam Maturidi, and Imam Termizi International Scientific Research Centers, as well as the legacy of the great scholars.

This initiative became an important practical step toward widely promoting Uzbekistan’s rich civilizational heritage on the international stage and introducing a global audience to the contributions of our great scholars to world science and spiritual development.
