🔴 The breath of history and modern design: A journey from the Silk Road to Khorezm

At the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, another scientific and practical discussion was held, dedicated to two major sections of the Pre-Islamic Era Civilizations gallery — “Ancient Khorezm” and “The Great Silk Road”.

The meeting was attended by the Center’s leading scholars and specialists, scientific advisers, and a design team from Turkey’s “Outdoor Factory” company. Proposals were discussed to enrich the content of the exhibitions, ensure historical accuracy, and enhance their visual appeal.

Participants included Doctor of Historical Sciences Jannat Ismoilova, Professor O‘ktam Mavlonov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor Mirsodiq Is’hoqov, Doctor of Philosophy in Art Studies Otabek Orifjonov, the Center’s senior researcher Alisher Egamov, as well as designers and technical experts. The list of exhibits was reviewed, and necessary edits and adjustments were made.

In the discussion on the “Great Silk Road” section, ideas were exchanged about the architectural elements of the historical market entrance, decorative solutions, and the depiction of early medieval Sogdian merchants’ clothing in the video content. Professor O‘ktam Mavlonov and the designers proposed ways to ensure harmony between historical accuracy and artistic expression.

In the “Ancient Khorezm” section, the working group led by Professor Mirsodiq Is’hoqov collaborated with designers on the placement of Zoroastrian-era exhibits, the “eternal flame” area, the lighting of images and photographs, the portrayal of characters in the video content, and the overall color harmony.

By the end of the meeting, it was agreed to carry out additional scholarly research, obtain further expert input when necessary, and work closely with designers to ensure that the video content for both sections is historically grounded and visually impactful.
