“This truly is a great complex” — Suma Chakrabarti

Suma Chakrabarti, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on economic development, effective governance, and international cooperation, paid a visit to the Islamic Civilization Center. After familiarizing himself with the exhibitions, he highly praised the Center’s architectural concept and the richness of its displays, emphasizing its importance in forming a comprehensive understanding of Uzbekistan’s role in the history of Islamic civilization.
The guest viewed the Center not merely as a museum, but as a large-scale cultural and academic project that presents the region’s intellectual heritage through a modern exhibition language. According to him, the building’s design, spatial layout, and selection of exhibits reflect a thoroughly well-thought-out concept.
Suma Chakrabarti, Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on economic development, effective governance, and international cooperation, said:
“In my view, this is an extremely magnificent structure. The building itself its design, layout, and exhibition displays has been very carefully thought through. It was a very large project, but I believe it has been implemented successfully. Once the Center opens to the public, possibly in the spring, people will gain a very clear and comprehensive understanding of Uzbekistan’s place in Islamic heritage. I think this is precisely the main objective that was set for the project. Culturally speaking, this Center will be a world-class institution.
I was particularly impressed by the sections dedicated to the First and Second Renaissances, as they tell the story of this country’s history and culture. I hope that foreign visitors will come here more often. It is especially important, in my opinion, for people outside the region to learn more about the First and Second Renaissance periods, which are not very well known internationally.
I also noticed that many of the exhibits were acquired from dealers in the United Kingdom. It is very pleasing that they have returned to Uzbekistan and are being displayed here. Previously, many of them were kept in private collections, but now they are being presented to the public openly for the first time. It was a real pleasure to see this.”
According to the guest, after its opening, the Center will become a site of global cultural significance and a major attraction for international visitors.
