Artifact: Ossuary

The history of the handmade clay ossuary, which is expected to be featured in the exhibition of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, dates back to the 6th century. The walls of the ossuary depict priests standing before a mihrab under an arch.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been implementing significant projects aimed at reviving the rich scientific and spiritual heritage related to Islamic civilization. One such project is the comprehensive program titled “114 Qur’an Manuscripts”, which involves the study and public presentation of 114 rare Qur’an manuscripts that are historically and culturally connected to our country.

The latest working group discussion held at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan led to serious debates among scientific consultants, technical specialists, scriptwriters, restorers, and visual designers. The meeting once again analyzed the content, technical provision, scientific approaches, and implementation of the projects for the “Second Renaissance Period” exhibition, which will be featured in the Center’s Museum.

Who was Husayn Bayqara?

The ruler of Khorasan who wrote poems under the pen name Husayni, Sultan Husayn Bayqara was a representative of the Timurid dynasty and a great-grandson of Amir Timur. He was born in July 1438 in Herat. According to Babur, he was “karimut-tarafayn”, meaning he was a descendant of Sahibqiron (Amir Timur) from both his mother’s and father’s side.
