Among the rare written sources to be displayed in the exhibition of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, the 1422 decree of Shahrukh Mirza holds particular significance. Written in classical Uzbek, this document has historical value as one of the finest examples of medieval diplomatic and legal written culture.

In the Qur’an Hall of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, a unique 14th-century Turkic translation manuscript of the Holy Qur’an is on display a heritage specimen of great religious, scholarly, and cultural significance. Written in Eastern Turkic (Khwarezm Turkic), it is recorded in history as one of the oldest translations with an exact date. This Qur’an is highly valued not only for conveying Islamic teachings in the Turkic language but also as a lasting legacy in calligraphy, illumination art, and linguistics.

“The document grants Sayyid Nur al-Milla wal-Din Ali and Sayyid Sa‘d al-Milla wal-Din Ahmad ibn Yahyawi, both descendants of the Prophet’s family (sayyids), the rights to be welcomed and respected everywhere, to be assisted in all matters by state dignitaries without demands for gifts or offerings, to be escorted with guards to checkpoints during travel for their safety, to have their mounts exempt from requisition for postal service, to be freed from all taxes and duties, and to have their permanent security ensured in their places of residence…”
