German ambassador: “Truly a great project of global significance”
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, recently opened in Tashkent, has attracted global attention in a remarkably short period of time. Combining a millennium of history, unique artifacts, and cutting-edge technologies, this institution was established at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and is emerging not only as a museum but also as a global center for scholarship and spirituality. It is also being recognized by the international community as a significant milestone in the cultural and academic life of the country.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Uzbekistan, Manfred Huterer, had the opportunity to witness firsthand why the Center has received such acclaim while touring its museum exhibitions.
As he carefully explored each exhibition, the Center’s scholarly content and innovative presentation left a profound impression on him.
In the exhibition dedicated to the pre-Islamic period, the ambassador was particularly fascinated by the rare 3,000-year-old bronze deer statue, brought from the United Kingdom to Uzbekistan. Dating back to the Bronze Age, the artifact embodies the ancient worldview and mythological thinking of the peoples of Central Asia. The history of the celestial horses also drew his special attention. Through these exhibits, the worldview of ancient civilizations and the idea of harmony between humanity and nature were conveyed in a highly compelling manner.
In the First Renaissance exhibition, samples of Samarkand paper, the Kiswah of the Kaaba, and astronomical instruments such as astrolabes attracted the ambassador’s interest. He emphasized that these exhibits vividly demonstrate the high level of scientific and intellectual achievement attained during that era and reflect the profound respect for knowledge within Islamic civilization.
The exhibition devoted to the Second Renaissance also left a lasting impression on the guest through its extensive presentation of the Timurid Empire and its rich cultural and scientific environment. In particular, German-language sources about Amir Temur and the palace library aroused the ambassador’s special interest. He noted that these materials effectively illustrate the continuity of historical connections.
The section titled “New Uzbekistan — The Foundation of the New Renaissance” showcases the country’s contemporary development, the activities of its leadership, and its strategic priorities. The ambassador was especially impressed by the section dedicated to youth, highlighting their achievements and opportunities. He noted that the exhibition clearly demonstrates that the future of the country is closely linked to a knowledgeable and capable younger generation.
The Holy Qur’an Hall was particularly moving for the ambassador. He praised the hall’s mapping hologram, unique architectural design, 45-ton chandelier, and the harmonious use of pink marble, all of which contribute to the hall’s remarkable grandeur.
Manfred Huterer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Uzbekistan:
“This is my first visit to the Center, and it has left a tremendous impression on me. In my opinion, this Center, established at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is truly a project of global significance.
Here, you are presenting your roots—the roots of both Islamic civilization and Uzbek civilization. The Center houses numerous unique treasures, some of which have even been repatriated from abroad.
I believe this Center is not only about history but also about the future. Through the concepts of the First, Second, and Third Renaissance, it places special emphasis on the importance of human capital, education, and enlightenment.
In addition, the ideas of peace are strongly promoted here. It once again demonstrates that Islam is a religion of peace. Uzbekistan’s policy of cooperation with neighboring countries is also a highly impressive example.
I am confident that this Center will hold great significance not only for Uzbekistan but for all the peoples of Central Asia. At the same time, it will become an important destination for foreign visitors, politicians, and delegations. We will certainly bring German delegations here in the coming months.
Everyone who comes to Tashkent should visit this Center. For me, this visit has been a truly valuable gift.”
